At SMS Equipment, reporting to the EVP Eastern Region, the Regional Manager is responsible and accountable for leading and managing the Central Region in order to achieve the Company’s mission and to implement and support the policies, goals, and objectives established by the EVP Eastern Region. This position is responsible for the management, development and direction of the central region’s daily business operations; ensuring central region activities support the safe, efficient and continuous functions of sales, maintenance, repair of equipment. This position is located in Etobicoke, ON.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Primarily responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day activities of the Central Region operations and aligning with the objectives and directives of the EVP Eastern Region.

• Plans, organizes and directs all parts, service, and equipment sales (non-mining) activities within the Central Region.
• Leads programs to build Central Region capabilities.
• Establishes a high level of performance with respect to cost management.
• Establishes a high level of customer satisfaction through the effective communication of performance standards required to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of product and related services.

2. Drives future production and maximizes the Central Region’s performance as it relates to profitability, environmental compliance, cost reduction, workflow, productivity, best practices, human resources and safety.

• Reviews Central Region operating results, compares with established objectives, and takes the appropriate measure to enhance outcome and performance.
• Monitors and ensures compliance with all contractual customers, contractors and supplier agreements.
• Enforces Company policies and procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Show strong leadership in implementing Health & Safety policies and practices.
• Ensures Central Region compliance to performance standards and legislation.

3. Relates to activities that ensure effective delivery of service to all levels of internal and external customers.

• Ensures provision of service (technical and non-technical) to customers, on the basis of agreed programs and in compliance with Company policies and goals, ensuring minimization of costs and maximization of Company image.

4. Promotes a positive labour / employee relations climate and teamwork at all levels of the Central Region organization.

• Practices sound leadership and human relations principles to promote teamwork at all times.
• Conducts and participates in activities that contribute to an effective working relationship employees.
• Responsible for employee development

5. Performs other duties and projects as required by senior management.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree in administration or a related technical field with a minimum of 8 to 10 years’ experience in a similar position in our industry within the construction /industrial industry with a strong branch operations orientation is required.

Additional requirements include:

• Ability to set objectives which are realistic but aggressive.

• Demonstrates strength and competence in impacting and influencing for resources and outcomes (i.e. budgets, people, and technology) and finding “win-win” solutions.

• Strong organizational skills and customer oriented.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Power point and Outlook.

• Stewards revenues and/ or expenses in accordance with budgets; estimates future possibilities, manages revenue/ expense controls, and provides informed analyses.

• Evaluates alternatives and assesses advantages/ risks in making decisions which are timely, decisive and effective; tailors decisions to unusual or ambiguous situations; having the courage and conviction to make important decisions in the face of conflicting or incomplete information.

• Identifies and evaluates unique opportunities for improving the Central Region operations (i.e. sales, products, cost reductions, use of resources, policies/ procedures); generating new ideas, approaches or techniques having useful application.

• Must be highly motivated and able to influence and motivate others; maintains motivation even in the face of inevitable delays, setbacks, policy shifts and disappointment.

• Acquires and retains knowledge/ understanding through study, instruction or experience.
