At SMS Equipment, our Mining Sales Analyst is responsible for sourcing and reporting on data relating to equipment, customers, prospects and market trends. The Mining Sales Analyst will provide valuable insights to help drive decision making, solve problems and underpin strategic communications. This position is located in Acheson, AB.

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement.

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $105,000.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain a prospect strategy in Canada and Alaska for both open pit and underground mining.
  • Build a dataset of all projects across Canada and Alaska with key attributes of each prospect.
  • Size the market opportunities tied to these prospects by providing expected equipment fleets.
  • Establish a prioritization of key prospects by ranking them on criteria i.e. size of fleet, financing, commodity, etc., as discussed through collaboration with Mining Sales.
  • Develop a matrix of key personnel and influencers across these prospects.
  • Establish an equipment population protocol and reporting structure for Komatsu and competitor projects.
  • Establish a hierarchy of data sources to use for equipment populations.
  • Construct a data model of all equipment fleets currently in the market.
  • Build a replacement schedule that includes models and expected timing of replacement by key mining project.
  • Generate insights into equipment economics and customer lifetime value.
  • Build models that highlight the total cost of ownership (TCO) of Komatsu equipment and keep it refreshed/updated with current pricing levels.
  • Draw insights on TCO levers and help convert them into actions and opportunities with OEMs, suppliers and the Mining Sales team.
  • Manage a dataset of parts and service revenue associated with customers to assess SMS' revenue mix and opportunities with key customers.
  • Oversee CRM and quoting data and collectively establish the KPI's regarding quotes and SMS' project and deal tracker.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years related experience, post-secondary education is Marketing or Data Analytics is preferred. A combination of education and experience will be considered. Additional requirements include:

  • Experience in the mining or heavy equipment industry is an asset.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong understanding of data management and data visualization tools such as PowerBI or Tableau.
  • Experience in establishing protocols and processes around data governance.
  • Experience with pricing and revenue models, equipment life cycle costing and sizing market opportunities is required.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy with a variety of individuals and groups.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to develop, plan and implement both short and long range goals.
