Reporting to the Vice President, Materials, the Asphalt Director is responsible for driving growth, profitable sales and effective execution of strategy for its assigned line of businesses while ensuring environmental and health & safety standards are met through compliance of Company standards and local legislation. Through continuous collaboration and cross-functional communication, the Asphalt Director will provide leadership and vision, inspiring and motivating staff to achieve excellence within the sector.

Location: Concord, ON or Oakville, ON

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage HMA budget and P&L for assigned business units, establishing clear financial growth objectives, optimizing profitability while ensuring overall strategy alignment.
  • Accurately establish forecast, volume, margin, ASP & costing.
  • Set strategic annual business plans, consistently identifying risk and developing new opportunities based on top-down targets and objectives.
  • Manage key account relationships and key vendor selection.
  • Provide asset management decision making for mobile equipment including contract agreement management consistently ensuring financial optimization is at the forefront.
  • Provide strategic recommendations regarding internal pricing strategies through analysis and understanding of the business and marketplace.
  • Contribute to overall business strategy and annual budget process.
  • Drive any necessary culture change and improvement in business performance to deliver strategic goals.
  • Support and drive Health and Safety processes and procedures within the organization implementing a behavioral approach to safety and a zero-tolerance culture.

Requirements:

  • Post-Secondary Degree in Civil or Chemical Engineering with 10+ years of experience in the Construction or Asphalt paving sector.
  • 5+ years of experience managing a cross-functional team, within a matrix-driven environment.
  • Ability to develop, maintain and communicate appropriate metrics, interpret trends, and adjust strategies as needed in response to changing market conditions and/or role requirements.
  • Experience operating in and influencing at a strategic level.
  • Customer focused & adaptable, with superb communication skills.
  • Excellent Computer skills - Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
