Job details
ABOUT PROTEK Protek Safety & Controls is a Calgary-based distributor of hazardous location safety and control equipment serving customers across Western Canada. We supply fire and gas detection, flame detection, instrumentation, explosion-proof lighting, heat tracing, heaters and signalling products from manufacturers including Dialight, Sensor Electronics (SEC), Fire & Gas Detection Technologies (FGD), Honeywell, E2S, Federal Signal and Eltherm. Our customers work in oil and gas production, gas processing, power generation, pulp and paper and other heavy industries, and we support them from early project planning through installation, commissioning and ongoing support. We are growing. We are adding to our sales team, investing in new systems and tools, and expanding our coverage across Western Canada. For people who perform, that growth creates room to take on larger accounts, new territories and more responsibility. THE ROLE Protek is hiring a Technical Field Sales Representative to own and grow our business in Red Deer and the surrounding area. You will spend most of your week on the road, moving from plant to plant and site to site to meet the operators, maintenance teams, instrumentation technicians and facility leaders who use our products. Your job is to find the sites and applications where Protek's products are not in use today, build the relationships to change that, and grow the accounts we already have. This role suits an experienced salesperson who lives in the Red Deer area, has a strong network in the local oil and gas and industrial community, and would rather be in the field than behind a desk. WHAT YOU WILL DO Grow the territory ▪ Own sales growth in Red Deer and the surrounding area, with accountability for new business and for keeping the customers we have. ▪ Visit plants, field locations and facilities throughout the territory, completing 10 to 20 customer engagements each week, from site visits and product demonstrations to technical lunch and learn presentations. ▪ Identify sites and applications where Protek's products are not in use today, and win them. ▪ Use your existing network to open doors, and keep building new relationships with producers, operators, contractors and service companies. ▪ Grow existing accounts through planned, regular contact and targeted outreach. Sell technically ▪ Educate customers on gas detection, flame detection, instrumentation, lighting and other hazardous location products, and help them select the right solution for each application. ▪ Work with our inside sales team to prepare accurate quotations that include competitive intelligence, delivery expectations, application details and next steps. ▪ Follow up on every open quote, and document lost opportunities in enough detail to inform future strategy. Stay organized ▪ Log all customer communication and activity in Protek's CRM, and submit a weekly call report on meeting outcomes, technical needs and upcoming opportunities. ▪ Represent Protek at customer lunches, dinners and industry events with management approval. ▪ Travel for technical training, commissioning support, trade shows and manufacturer visits as required. WHAT YOU BRING Required ▪ 5+ years of technical or industrial sales experience, including direct experience selling into oil and gas. ▪ Residence in Red Deer or the surrounding area. ▪ A strong network across Red Deer area producers, operators, contractors and service companies. ▪ A track record of winning new business, not only maintaining existing accounts. ▪ Strong technical aptitude and the ability to explain products and applications clearly. ▪ The ability to manage a territory independently and plan your own week around the best opportunities. ▪ Solid administrative discipline, including CRM use, accurate reporting and consistent follow-up. ▪ Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel. ▪ A valid driver's licence, reliable transportation and willingness to travel daily throughout the territory. ▪ Current industry safety tickets such as H2S Alive, or willingness to obtain them. Assets ▪ Experience selling instrumentation, lighting, gas detection, flame detection or other hazardous location products. We will train you on our product lines. ▪ An electrical or instrumentation background (trade, diploma or degree). ▪ Experience in petrochemical, gas processing, power generation or other heavy industries. WHAT WE OFFER ▪ Competitive base salary plus commission. ▪ Full benefits package. ▪ Paid vacation, sick days and personal days. ▪ Your own territory, backed by our inside sales and technical support teams. ▪ Access to leading manufacturers and new technologies. ▪ Room to grow as we expand our sales team and coverage. ▪ A culture of trust and accountability, without micromanagement. ▪ Protek-branded apparel provided.
