Job details
Keep the Dream Alive. It’s a simple statement that means so much to thousands of LUG Athletes playing in our recreational sports leagues across North America. LUG started as a way for young adults to keep playing the sport they loved in recreational and competitive settings long after minor sports programming ended. From our original roots as a small 6 team hockey league, we have grown into one of the largest adult sports leagues with over 25,000 players across 70+ cities. With a focus on creating a strong, competitive, inclusive community, and delivering exceptional experiences both on and off the field of play, LUG is the ticket that students, adults, and alumni need for all of their sport and social needs. About the Role We’re looking for a hungry, self-directed university student to join LUG Sports as a Business Development Representative (BDR) Intern. This is a true BDR role focused entirely on lead generation and top-of-funnel pipeline building for our sales team. You’ll build and grow LUG’s social presence in target markets, identify and source league commissioners and execute outreach to book discovery calls for our account executives and BDRs. This is a high-volume, execution-focused role for someone who’s competitive, resourceful, and ready to do real sales work from day one. Responsibilities Build and grow local Instagram accounts in target and pre-target markets by following relevant users in specific cities to drive organic follower growth Research and identify recreational league commissioners across active and prospective markets Execute cold DM outreach to scouting commissioner candidates to book discovery calls with our account executives and BDRs Monitor new followers to identify warm leads and flag high-potential accounts for BDR DM outreach Log contacts, outreach activity, and lead status in Zoho CRM Track follower growth, outreach volume, and meetings booked by market and report results to the sales team What You'll Learn This isn't a coffee-run internship. You'll come out of this term with real, transferable skills and a clear sense of what a career in sales looks like from the ground up. By the end of your placement, you'll have hands-on experience in: B2B sales fundamentals — how to identify, qualify, and move prospects through a pipeline Social selling and digital community building as a lead generation strategy CRM systems and sales data management using industry-standard tools (Zoho) Market research and prospect segmentation across multiple geographic markets Outreach strategy, messaging, and the psychology of cold contact Sales performance tracking — understanding your numbers, reading results, and adjusting your approach You'll work directly alongside our sales team, get real feedback on your output, and have a clear line of sight to what full-time BDR performance looks like at a growing company. About You Currently enrolled in a university or college program Highly organized and self-directed — comfortable managing high-volume repetitive tasks without losing quality Competitive by nature — you want to hit your numbers and you want to know how you stack up Familiar with Instagram and social platforms as tools, not just as a user Experience in sales, marketing, or community organizing is a plus, but not required Additional Notes We’re a remote-first team and output is more important than facetime, so where you choose to work is up to you — as long as you have internet access, you can work from wherever helps to make you successful, and your family happy. League games typically take place on evenings and weekends. This is not your standard 9-5. Working day requirements may shift based on leagues running and the season. Benefits and Compensation Competitive salary Fast track to Full Time opportunities with LUG HQ Real operational ownership in a fast-growing sports organization — not a coffee-run internship. Free participation in LUG Sports Leagues during the work term Free LUG merchandise, partner products, and access to special events. If you are interested in applying for this position, please send your resume and cover letter to hiring@lugsports.com For the Cover Letter, we don’t need anything fancy, just tell us in plain writing why you want to join the LUG Head Office team. Only those who include a Cover Letter will be considered. NOTE: At LUG, we are building leagues for a diverse world and we need a diverse team to do that successfully. We strongly encourage applications from everyone regardless of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status, physical or mental disability, military service, pregnancy, childbirth and related medical conditions or any other classification protected by federal, provincial and local laws and ordinances.
