The Director, Future Capabilities is responsible for identifying, developing, and advancing strategic growth opportunities that support the Company's long-term business objectives within the defense, coast guard, and maritime security sectors. Reporting to the Vice President, Business Development, the Director leads the Future Capabilities department and is responsible for monitoring emerging operational requirements, technology trends, artificial intelligence, machine learning and market developments to identify opportunities for future business growth. The role develops strategic partnerships, supports capability roadmaps, and collaborates with internal stakeholders to align future market opportunities with Company products, services, and innovation priorities. What will you do? Strategic Market Development • Develop and maintain a future capabilities roadmap aligned with customer requirements, industry trends, and corporate growth objectives. • Identify emerging market opportunities, operational capability gaps, and evolving customer needs within the defense, coast guard, and maritime sectors. • Conduct market and competitive analysis to support strategic decision-making and business growth initiatives. • Provide recommendations to senior leadership regarding future capability investments and market priorities. Future Capability & Opportunity Development • Assess emerging technologies and industry developments to identify opportunities for new products, services, and business growth. • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align future capability opportunities with organizational objectives and customer requirements. • Support the evaluation, prioritization, and advancement of strategic growth initiatives. • Act as a subject matter expert on future maritime capability trends and operational developments. Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with government, industry, academic, and research organizations. • Represent the Company at customer engagements, industry events, conferences, and trade shows. • Identify and pursue partnership, research, and funding opportunities that support future capability development and market expansion. Leadership & Department Management • Lead, mentor, and develop employees within the Future Capabilities department. • Establish departmental objectives, priorities, and performance measures. • Manage departmental resources and budgets in accordance with approved plans and delegated authority. • Foster collaboration across Business Development and other functional areas to support corporate objectives. What will you bring? • Post-secondary education in Business, Engineering, Maritime Studies, Defense Studies, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. • Progressive leadership experience within defense, coast guard, maritime security, marine technology, or a related industry. • Experience in strategic business development, market development, growth strategy, or capability development. • Knowledge of maritime operations and emerging technologies, including autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, digital solutions, or related capabilities. • Demonstrated experience translating emerging technologies into deployable, mission-ready capabilities that address customer and operational requirements. • Demonstrated ability to identify, evaluate, and advance strategic growth opportunities. • Experience building and maintaining relationships with government, industry, academic, and research stakeholders. • Strong leadership, communication, presentation, and relationship management skills. • Proven ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and influence decision-making at senior levels. • Knowledge of government procurement, defense programs, or publicly funded research and innovation initiatives is considered an asset. • Ability to travel and obtain and maintain any required security clearances.
