Project Overview
Bechtel's Public Infrastructure business is investing in the Canadian market, building on a strong delivery legacy in major rail and transit programs. Based locally in Toronto, this role is central to deepening Bechtel's relationships, market knowledge, and prospect pipeline across Canada's transit, rail, and broader infrastructure sectors, including the pursuit of collaborative and progressive contracting opportunities with local partners.
Job Summary
In this position, you will play a key role on Bechtel's Americas Public Infrastructure Business Development team, dedicated to the Canadian market and based locally in Toronto. You will build and maintain personal relationships with key contacts, customer organizations, strategic vendors, and partners across Canada's transit, rail, and infrastructure sectors. You will develop bid and proposal strategies and demonstrate how Bechtel can help customers achieve their objectives. Leveraging your local market presence and established relationships, your work will expand Bechtel's reach in Canada and drive growth and success for the business. As you establish yourself, you will have the opportunity to lead your own prospects—with coaching and support—from early positioning through to successful award.
Major Responsibilities
Prepares and monitors market profiles, customer profiles, and business development activity reports for the Canadian market Performs research on Canadian customers and competitors and presents findings to business development colleagues and business line general management Maintains records of prospective projects and competitor information across Canada's transit, rail, and infrastructure pipeline Builds and sustains local relationships with public and private customers, agencies, and prospective partners in the Canadian market (such as Metrolinx, the Toronto Transit Commission, and Infrastructure Ontario) Supports the identification and evaluation of local partners and collaborative / progressive contracting opportunities Supports engagement with new prospects and customers, drawing on local market knowledge and relationships Develops marketing information for use by the business development team Participates in the management of the proposal development effort, including producing and assembling content Owns and develops selected customer relationships as part of the account “zippering” plan, working alongside business line leadership Leads the drafting of internal governance and pursuit-approval documents Manages and tracks business development budgets, including monitoring spend against plan and supporting forecasting Stays abreast of Canadian industry trends, policy, funding programs, and relationships that can impact Bechtel's business development performance
Education And Experience Requirements
Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience, or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge And Skills
Established network and demonstrated business development experience within the Canadian transit, rail, and/or infrastructure construction market Based in Toronto / the Greater Toronto Area and legally eligible to work in Canada Knowledge of Canadian public infrastructure customers, the procurement and funding environment, and collaborative / progressive contracting models Willingness to travel to meet customers and partners as the business requires Knowledge of the Canadian contractor market and/or public procurement process of large construction projects from contractor perspective is helpful Career-level position within field; considered skilled and proficient in the discipline Professional with an understanding of the area of specialization; resolves a wide range of issues Strong relationship-building, research, and written and verbal communication skills French language ability is an asset
