About the role

What you will be doing:

The Sales Specialist is responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities for WinSport's events and venue offerings. Working as part of the Sales & Events team, this role drives revenue growth by managing the full sales cycle, building lasting client relationships, and converting qualified leads into confirmed bookings. The Sales Specialist handles both inbound inquiries and proactive outreach and works closely with the Event Coordinator and other internal teams to ensure a smooth client experience from first contact through to event delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities across a wide range of clients and event types including: corporate, association, not-for-profit, and social markets.

  • Manage the full sales cycle: prospecting, qualifying leads, conducting sales meetings, preparing proposals, and closing bookings.

  • Respond to inbound leads in a timely manner and follow up proactively to convert inquiries into confirmed business.

  • Develop and deliver tailored proposals and presentations that reflect client needs and WinSport's service offerings.

  • Negotiate contracts and pricing to maximize revenue and overall economic impact for Winsport.

  • Prepare and manage contracts, invoices, and deposits ensuring accuracy and adherence to payment timelines.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records and event data in WinSport's event management system (Ungerboeck/Momentus).

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships to support repeat business and referrals.

  • Conduct site tours and client visits to showcase WinSport's facilities and activity areas.

  • Coordinate with the Event Coordinator and internal departments to support a seamless handover from sale to event execution.

  • Represent WinSport at trade shows, industry events, and networking opportunities to develop new leads.

  • Stay current on industry trends, competitor offerings, and market conditions affecting the events and hospitality sector.

  • Support the development of sales packages and promotional materials in collaboration with the Marketing team.

  • Analyze post-event feedback to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and repeat bookings.

  • Adhere to all WinSport health and safety policies and report any safety concerns to the appropriate individuals.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What you bring:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a sales pipeline and close business in a competitive environment, including gathering and applying market intelligence to identify the right opportunities at the right time.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proposal writing and client presentations, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to a range of audiences.
  • Skilled negotiator with the ability to use influencing techniques to reach outcomes that work for both the client and WinSport.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to define priorities, handle multiple active files, and take ownership of deadlines.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships across corporate, association, and not-for-profit client segments, including within and across internal teams and external partners.
  • Collaborative team member who involves others in decisions, draws on colleagues' strengths, and puts shared goals ahead of individual priorities.
  • Takes initiative to identify and act on business opportunities, obstacles, and emerging client needs without waiting to be directed.
  • Comfort with CRM and event management systems; experience with Ungerboeck (Momentus) is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • High energy, positive, and self-motivated with a strong customer service orientation.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or extended hours as required by business needs.
  • Knowledge of audiovisual, catering, and event logistics is an asset.

Education

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Marketing, Hospitality, or a related field is preferred.

Experience

  • 5+ years of industry related experience in a similar position, preferably within events, hospitality, or venue sales.

  • Experience with the hospitality sales cycle is considered a strong asset.

  • Familiarity with B2B and B2C sales environments.

Working Conditions:

Work Environment:

  • Primarily office-based, working in a professional, fast-paced environment.
  • Frequent use of computer systems, phones, and other standard office equipment.
  • Regular meetings and collaboration with internal and external partners, in person and virtually.
  • Occasional off-site meetings, training sessions, or events may be required.
  • May be exposed to sensitive or confidential information requiring discretion and professionalism.

Work Hours:

  • Generally full-time, Monday to Friday.
  • Occasional extended hours, evenings, or weekends to meet deadlines, attend meetings, or respond to urgent matters—especially during seasonal peaks or critical business periods.
  • This role may be required to assist in event coverage as needed.

Physical Demands:

  • Predominantly sedentary, involving sitting for extended periods.

  • Requires frequent keyboarding, typing, and screen time.

  • Occasional lifting of materials or files up to approximately 10–15 pounds (e.g., boxes of documents, training materials).

  • May require walking throughout facilities or grounds, particularly in multi-department operations.

  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for prolonged periods.
