Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton and Enterprise Square, Edmonton.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director, Principal Gifts Strategy & Initiatives (PGSI), the Development Officer is a core member of a high-performing, collaborative team dedicated to advancing the University of Alberta's most transformational philanthropic priorities.
Working closely with the Director and collaborating closely with the Associate Vice-President of Development and Alumni Relations and the Office of the President, the Development Associate plays a central role in engaging, cultivating, and soliciting principal gift donors.
The Vice-President - External Relations leads the University of Alberta’s efforts to enhance and protect its reputation locally, nationally, and globally. This role oversees the development and execution of strategic initiatives that shape how internal and external audiences perceive the university.
With a focus on communication, engagement, and relationship-building, the Vice-President provides leadership for Communications and Marketing, Alumni Relations, Advancement, and Government and Community Relations. These teams collaborate to support the university’s brand, foster donor and alumni engagement, and establish strong connections with public and community partners.
Through these coordinated efforts, the Vice-President - External Relations ensures the university’s image, influence, and impact are advanced in alignment with its mission, values, and long-term goals.

Conduct in-depth research, and have an understanding of the philanthropic trends of post-secondary institutions nationally and internationally.

Prepare comprehensive analyses to support the development of strategic and tactical plans for multidisciplinary projects.

Supports with all PGSI development activities, including assisting with donor tours, data management, portfolio review, and external/internal projects.

Analyze targeted financial data and market trends to make informed recommendations that advance institutional initiatives

Leads proactive strategy development and facilitates engagement plans for Principal Giving ($5M+) donors.

Collaborates with other fundraisers, academic leaders, and senior university leadership representatives to create and enhance university-wide fundraising strategies.

A bachelor’s degree is required

Minimum3-5 years working in a fundraising or research environment

Strong written and oral communication skills with experience in proposal writing

Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple and shifting priorities

Excellent organization and time management skills

Demonstrated problem-solving skills

Well-developed level of computer literacy, Google Suite, MS Office

Willing and able to travel for work, including staff evening and weekend programs and events

Self-motivated, energetic, proactive

Knowledge of a wide range of fundraising tools and demonstrated experience with activities throughout the giving cycle

This position has a comprehensive benefits package and an annual salary range of $70,435 - $117,396.
The terms and conditions of this appointment are governed by Schedule F of the collective agreement between the Board of Governors of the University of Alberta and the Association of Academic Staff of the University of Alberta.
