Pay Range: $80,000 - $110,000

Position Overview
Responsible for globally sourcing, purchasing, and developing globally sourced merchandise for specific departments. This role supports the full product development lifecycle—from concept to launch—by partnering with international suppliers, internal sourcing teams, and merchants to deliver differentiated, profitable products aligned to category strategy. The Associate Merchant, Product Development will partner closely with Merchant partners and cross-functional teams to identify new category specific areas for development as well as lead and identify private brand cost out opportunities. This role will understand product, merchandising needs, analyze projects, specifications, and ensure private brand governance.
Key Responsibilities
Product Development and Commercialization
Develop and purchase new products or manage existing products, including cost negotiation and margin optimization Create product specifications, including packaging, safety, quality, and environmental requirements Manage development of selling materials (packaging, PK, POP, marketing assets)
Sourcing and Manufacturing
Identify, qualify, and manage international vendors in alignment with Home Depot standards Maintain strong understanding of domestic and international supply chains
Cross Functional Collaboration
Partner across Global Sourcing, Supply Chain, and Merchandising teams Support and present at line reviews, marketing meetings, and business reviews
Financial Acumen
Understand and evaluate product impact on sales, margin, and inventory
Reporting Structure
Typically reports to Product Development Merchant No direct people leadership responsibilities
Travel Requirements
International and domestic travel required Typically <10%–20% overnight travel depending on sourcing footprint Weekly travel to Home Depot stores
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
Office‑based role with significant time spent in meetings and reviews Periodic travel to factories, vendors, and sourcing offices Occasional exposure to manufacturing environments during supplier visits
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience 5+ years related experience in: Product development Global sourcing Merchandising or manufacturing Strong negotiation, communication, and vendor management skills Experience working with international suppliers Core Competencies
