The Opportunity
The Director, Business Development role at Chartwell is a senior leadership opportunity responsible for advancing the organization’s enterprise-wide business development and referral growth strategy.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Sales Strategy, this position provides national leadership to a team of Business Development Managers across the organization and is accountable for strengthening internal and external referral generation, expanding provincial partnerships, and formalizing scalable business development practices.
Within the scope of the role, the Director will oversee the business development activities for a small portfolio of homes in Ontario, oversee the daily activities of the Business Development Managers, and coordinate core components of National and Provincial partnerships.
Key Activities
- Provide leadership, direction, and daily oversight to a national team of Business Development Managers, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and regional sales strategies.
- Provide guidance and remote support with business development activities for a portfolio of properties in northern Ontario.
- Develop, implement, and continuously refine Chartwell’s national business development strategy to strengthen both internal and external referral pipelines.
- Coordinate core components of National and Provincial partnerships, ensuring strategic alignment, performance consistency, and brand integrity.
- Partner closely with the Sales Strategy Consultants, Directors of Operations and Sales, and Residence Experience Consultants to ensure coordinated execution of referral and community integration initiatives.
- Provide governance and consistency in business development planning, budgeting, sponsorship evaluation, and partnership selection.
- Support the integration of business development strategies within acquisition and development activities as required.
- Represent Chartwell as a speaker and brand ambassador at educational forums, industry conferences, and partner-hosted events to enhance brand awareness and strengthen professional relationships.
- Strengthen site-level adoption and execution of the business development and community integration strategy by providing guidance, tools, and performance oversight.
- Lead the ongoing evolution of partnership resources, materials, and engagement tools to ensure consistency, relevance, and alignment with Chartwell’s brand standards and strategic priorities. Monitor, analyze, and interpret business development data and referral pipeline performance using Yardi Senior CRM and other reporting tools to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for optimization.
Qualifications
Experience:
- A minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in business development, strategic partnerships, or sales leadership within senior living, healthcare, or a related sector.
- Demonstrated success leading multi-site or multi-region business development or sales teams.
- Proven ability to design and implement structured referral growth strategies within a performance-driven environment.
- Experience overseeing provincial or large-scale partnership agreements.
- Strong understanding of referral-based sales models within the retirement living sector is highly preferred.
- Experience working within or alongside the Quebec retirement living or healthcare market is considered a strong asset.
Education:
- Post-secondary education in Business, Marketing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field is required.
- Advanced sales leadership training or executive education is considered an asset.

Bilingualism (English/French) is strongly preferred, with the ability to effectively collaborate within the Quebec market.

Availability to participate in occasional evening and weekend events or functions.
