The Opportunity We are looking for a Director, Business Development to build and lead a high-performing BD function at Inline Group. This is a player-coach role that blends team leadership with active, hands-on business development. 60%Team Leadership 40%Active BD Pursuit Core Mandate: Build and run a high-performing BD machine while remaining an active contributor on pursuits. You own the system — pipeline health, team development, win rates, and making sure the right opportunities reach the right BDMs at the right time — but you are also hands-on in the market. Key Responsibilities Direct management of four vertical Business Development Managers covering: AB Regional (Land Development & Infrastructure), Mining, Oil & Gas, and Utilities / Power / Energy Transition Pipeline strategy, tracking, forecasting, and reporting — ensuring leadership has real-time visibility into all active opportunities Proposal strategy and go/no-go decision-making BDM coaching, development, and performance management CRM discipline, follow-up processes, and reporting rhythm Active BD pursuit — stepping in directly on opportunities where the team needs support or where strategic value warrants senior involvement Coordination with Operations on capacity planning and pursuit alignment Coordination with Pre-Construction and Estimating teams on pricing and proposals Close collaboration with the VP, Strategic Relations on deal handoffs, qualification, and alignment on major strategic pursuits What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months) Deliver strong growth in the Alberta Land Development & Infrastructure vertical Establish clear reporting and real-time visibility into all active opportunities Build disciplined process around follow-ups, pursuit tracking, and CRM hygiene High BDM team engagement and retention Qualifications 10+ years of business development experience in construction, infrastructure, engineering services, or related industries 5+ years of people leadership experience — this is a team leadership role first Proven track record of building and managing BD teams, not just individual selling Strong understanding of the Alberta construction and infrastructure market Experience with pipeline management, CRM systems, and BD process discipline Ability to balance team leadership with personal BD contribution (player-coach mindset) Excellent relationship-building skills across all levels of client organizations Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience) Assets Experience working in a company with multiple service lines or verticals Understanding of pre-construction, estimating, and proposal processes What We Offer Competitive compensation package with performance bonus Opportunity to build and shape the BD function at a growing company Direct reporting to the CEO with significant strategic influence Collaborative leadership team with a clear growth trajectory Work alongside experienced industry leaders in a company that is scaling with purpose Interested?
