We have an opening for a Sales Insurance Advisor to join our Commercial Insurance team at our branch in Bedford, Nova Scotia.

Position Summary:

To provide front-line sales and customer service by analyzing, counseling, recommending coverage, quoting, placing and servicing new business. Sell Commercial Insurance products and meet sales targets while generating leads and developing business relationships with individual and group clientele; taking responsibility for the retention and account development of existing clients, quoting and placing new business as required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Sell new business insurance policies through referrals, introductory letters, as well as walk-in clients; up-sell and cross-sell insurance products and services to achieve established growth targets; service on-going client needs on established book of business; respond to customer inquiries, advise on insurance matters including conducting need assessments and making recommendations for appropriate cover
  • Qualify clients, measure quality of risk, ensure proper risk rating is applied and place with appropriate company
  • Prepare documentation for insurers, complete submissions, issue insurance certificates, process changes and renewals; entering new business and policy change data
  • Establish relationships through active participation in community marketing initiatives
  • Identify the appropriate selling features in each quote and offer most relevant products
  • Keep current on underwriting rules and workflow processes
  • Participate in training initiatives and professional development required of the position
  • Maintain Account Receivable’s in accordance company policy
  • Contact Underwriters and Adjusters as required

Skills and Experience:

  • High School and Post-Secondary Education
  • Minimum of 3 years sales experience
  • Previous commercial insurance experience of 2+ years preferred
  • A valid insurance license for the Province of Nova Scotia or willing to obtain same
  • Industry accreditation (eg CAIB, CIP, etc) would be assets
  • Working knowledge of Agency Manager (EPIC) and Policy Works an asset
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • High degree of professionalism, diplomacy and integrity
  • Excellent customer service and relationship management
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Commitment to continual learning
